FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. May I complete the qualification over any period of time?

Yes. The modular design of the Floristry WSQ means that the Floristry worker can take up any unit at any time and accumulate the Statements of Attainment (SOA) for all the necessary units, before receiving the corresponding qualification eventually. The total period of time before attaining the qualification should not exceed 60 months (or five years).

2. If a Floristry company wishes to send its employees for the Floristry WSQ courses, who should it contact?

The company can contact any of the Approved Training Providers Organisations (ATOs) to find out more information, such as course fees, course schedule, etc. The list of training programmes and the courses offered are also available at http://www.sdf.gov.sg. Alternatively, he or she may contact WDA’s One Call Centre (OCC) at 6883 5885 for more information.

3. Can some of our own in-house training courses be counted towards the completion of the Floristry WSQ Qualification without undergoing an accrediation process?

In-house providers will need to go through an approval process whereby providers are required to provide relevant documentation or evidence of structured in-house or OJT training taking place for that particular shell unit to WDA’s Quality Assurance (QAD), including:

  1. A brief overview or statement of how the shell unit could contribute towards enhancing the skills profile of employees as well as the overall business outcomes deliverables
  2. A brief course synopsis specifying overall objectives, key outcomes, duration, specific instructional objectives, assessment mode and training evaluation methodology, and
  3. Evidence of qualified personnel to design the course and conduct training and assessment (e.g. furnish names and CVs of trainers, instructional designers)

4. I am interested to submit my in-house courses for accreditation, but they do not exactly match the competency elements of the units. What should I do?

You will need to identify the competency elements that have not been met and develop the necessary content to meet the required criteria before submitting to QAD for accreditation.

5. If I am interested to submit my in-house courses for accreditation, are there any guidelines on the duration of the courses?

Yes, there is a recommended training duration for each WSQ unit. We are also recommending 3 hours as the maximum duration for assessment. Companies may develop their course materials to exceed the recommended duration, but the SDF and SRP funding are capped at the recommended number of hours for each unit. The companies would need to bear the training costs for any additional hours.

For more information on the accreditation procedure and submission, please refer ti the Course Accreditation Applicant’s Guide at http://www.wda.gov.sg.

6. What are the projected dates of future runs of the course?

The pilot runs of the courses will be conducted in the end of August 2008, and future runs of the courses are expected to commence from mid September 2008.

7. What is the format of assessment?

The assessment format is based on a mixture of oral questioning, practical demonstration, written test research project. Trainees are also encouraged to progressively build up a workplace portfolio over the course of training.

8. What if the participant ‘fails’ the assessment?

A participant who fulfills the competency-based requirements will be certified as ‘Competent’ with reference to the skills and knowledge being trained and assessed for.

A participant who does not fulfill the competency-based assessment requirements will be deemed as ‘Not Yet Competent’ and may choose to reattempt the assessment at a latter date, preferably after undergoing additional training.

NOTE: Skills development Fund (SDF)/ Skills Redevelopment Programme (SRP) funding is available for SDF/SRP eligible candidates on a one-time per unit basis. Candidates who reattempt assessment for the same unit will not be eligible for SDF/SRP funding after the first attempt.
