WORKFORCE SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS
The success of subsequent scholarship programs spearheaded CreativeWorkz to come aboard WDA's Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) framework as a professional training and assessment organization.

As a certified Approved Training Organization, CreativeWorkz not only provides a variety of inspirational floral workshops for beginners, hobbyists or seasoned professionals; its objective is also to offer learners recognition in certifying their floristry skills through the WSQ framework. Curriculum is developed with emphasis on fundamentals in floral design through lectures and practical hands-on – hence aligning this highly-complimented educational format to the national competency standards.

(1) Overview

The Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) has developed an integrated continuing education and training system known as the Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ). It was founded on international best practices, recognized by industries and employers.

(2) Skills under WSQ

WSQ is built on 3 skill levels: Employability Skills, Industry Skills and Occupational Skills.

Employability Skills - Employability Skills are generic skills that are portable across all industries. These include literacy, numeracy and soft-skills such as communications and workplace relationships, customer service and problem solving.

Industry Skills- Industry Skills are skills and knowledge relevant to an industry.

Occupational Skills - Occupational Skills are specific skills required to perform a specific job in the industry.

(3) Steps to Qualification

WSQ and its range of qualifications, from certificate to graduate diploma levels, is an industry-specific training roadmap. Each qualification comprises of various training units. Upon successful completion of each training unit, a Statement of Attainment (SOA) will be awarded. The SOA certifies that the learner has demonstrated that he or she possesses the skills, knowledge and ability to perform the corresponding job activity.

After obtaining the required number of SOAs, the learner will be awarded with the appropriate WSQ qualification. The qualification shows that the learner has acquired the skills, knowledge and ability to perform several job activities specific to the learner’s occupational level in the industry. There are seven qualifications that can be offered under the WSQ:

QUALIFICATION LEVEL
WSQ QUALIFICATIONS
7
Graduate Diploma
6
Graduate Certificate
5
Specialist Diploma
4

There are 7 qualification levels, with certificate competencies pegged at ‘Level 1’, and Graduate Diploma competencies pegged at ‘Level 7’. The qualification level is indicative of the complexity and difficulty of that level in terms of the job-related skills and abilities. It indicates the nature and level of skills required for that qualification.

(4) COMPETENCY-BASED TRAINING

Underpinning the Floristry WSQ training and certification are competency standards- the knowledge, skills and attributes a Floristry worker will require to perform his or her job effectively. Competency-based training is job-related; the training may be conducted on or off the job. While skills can be picked up on the job, competency-based training allows a worker to learn the necessary job-specific skills and knowledge, and be able to apply them more effectively to the workplace.

(5) ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

A fundamental underlying principle of Floristry WSQ is that of open access. This means that there are no academic requirements for the individual who wishes to be trained in any unit under the Floristry WSQ. The employer determines the suitability and the relevance of training in relation to the Floristry worker’s job and work performance. However, Floristry workers should have a certain level of literacy and numeracy ability to allow them to cope with the training.

Floristry workers who are interested in determining their level of literacy and numeric ability may take the workplace Literacy (WPL) & Workplace Numeracy (WPN) appraisals. The 1.5 hour Computer Adaptive test (CAT), which is conducted at the following premises:
