Course Overview
This course is developed to provide the learner with the knowledge and application skills to recognize the elements and principles of design as applied to floral artistry and also be able to arrange fresh flowers using floral foam. The learning outcomes will form an important foundation of floristry skills and knowledge pertaining to floral designing and preparation of floral arrangements.
This is an integrated course combining a core Competency Units (CU) - FL-DS-101C-1 Recognise the elements and principles of design as applied to floral artistry and an elective CU - FL-FS-101E-1 Assemble fresh flowers using floral foam in the WSQ framework; with relevancy to floristry foundation and floral products commonly associated in floral industry. Both of these CUs are modules that forms part of the WSQ Floristry Certificate Level qualification.
The course will be conducted in a classroom setting with facilitated training and guidance. Class size is limited so that each learner receives the individual attention that they need. Lectures, demonstrations, activities, hands-on and learner portfolio give a value-added learning experience.
Certification
Learners who successfully complete the course and achieved Competency in the assessment will be awarded the ‘Statement of Attainment’ under the Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) framework.
For Whom
This course is recommended for learners who have had no formal classroom training in this subject or for an employee with job titles such as “florist assistant” and “florist”.
Assumed Skills and Knowledge of learners who wish to enroll for this course:
- Flower and plant material identification
- Use and maintain tools and equipment
- Selecting floral hardware
- Able to listen and speak English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 3.
- Able to read and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 3.
- Able to use Numeracy skills equivalent to the Employability Skills System Workplace Numeracy (WPN) Level 3.
Contents
A step-by-step approach to recognizing and understanding the elements and principles of design, colour harmony as applied to floristry and reinforced with practical skills through hands-on work pieces. Skill on drawing and sketching is an added leverage to the profession of floral designing.

Duration of course
Total duration: 56 hours. (including Assessment). No. of Lessons: 8-day sessions.

Course fee
Full course fee: $1280.00 ($1369.60 with 7% GST)
Employers of company-sponsored applicants are eligible to apply for absentee payroll for courses conducted during working hours.
Tools Required
Learners are required to bring their personal tools such as florist scissors or secateurs, utility scissors (one pair each for paper and fabric), wire cutters, pliers, stapler and paper cutter. Other floral hardware used during the course will be provided.
