Overview
This course is developed to provide the learner with the knowledge and application skills to perform basic wiring techniques that lead to finished floral products commonly associated in floristry and the Singapore floral industry.
The development of the course structure is in line with FL-FS-103C-1 Perform Basic Wiring Techniques, a core Competency Unit which forms part of the WSQ Floristry Certificate Level qualification.
This is a one-day course that will be conducted in a classroom setting with facilitated training and guidance. Class size is limited so that each learner receives the individual attention that they need.
For Whom
This course is recommended for learners who have had no formal classroom training in this subject or for an employee with job titles such as “florist assistant” and “florist”.
Assumed Skills and Knowledge of learners who wish to enroll for this course:
- Use and maintenance of tools, floral hardware and work area.
- Recognition and characteristics of common flowers and plant material used in commercial floristry work.
- Functions of plant structures and basic principles of botany.
- Use and selection of flowers and plant materials.
- Able to listen and speak English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 3.
- Able to read and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 3.
- Able to use Numeracy skills equivalent to the Employability Skills System Workplace Numeracy (WPN) Level 3.
Certification
Learners who successfully complete the course and achieved Competency in the assessment will be awarded a ‘Statement of Attainment’ under the Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) framework.
Contents
Course will cover functions of wiring, basic wiring techniques and its application. This forms an integral foundation of floristry skills and knowledge pertaining to preparation of floral products such as corsages, wired bouquets, hand bouquets and floral arrangements. Emphasis is placed on practical skills and knowledge with hands-on application of real work that is relevant to the floral industry.

- Use and selection of flowers and plant materials
- Type of wires
- Application of wires
- Support capabilities of wires
- Wiring techniques of flower stems
- Wiring techniques of flowers and plant materials
- Construction of boutonniere and corsage
Tools Required
Learners are required to bring their personal tools such as florist scissors, flower knife,
wire cutters, pliers and utility scissors.
Other floral hardware used during the course will be provided.
Duration of course
Training 10 hours, Assessment 2 hours. Total duration: 12 hours
Course fee
Individual applicant: $295.00 ($315.65 with 7% GST)
Employers of company-sponsored applicants are eligible to apply for absentee payroll for courses conducted during working hours.
